The Rotator Cuff and Its Importance

Rotator Cuff is a group of four tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint. These four tendons hook up to a muscle that moves the shoulder in a specific direction. The four muscles whose tendons form the rotator cuff are subscapularis tendon, supraspinatus muscle, infraspinatus and teres minor.

Cuff stick to the capsule and glenohumeral attachment of the humeral head. The only individual structures humeral head is the upper edge of the subscapularis tendon and the anterior border of supraspinatus muscle, which define a triangular area called rotator interval.

The cuff also plays two important roles: it stabilizes the glenohumeral joint and turns the humerus outward. Cuff humeral head centered in the cavity through the labrum and passive effects, especially through active multidirectional effects. In other words, cuff prevents the upward movement of the humeral head due to the pull of the deltoid muscle at the beginning of the elevation of the arm. In addition, there are two cuff muscles, teres minor and infraspinatus, are the only muscles that provides external rotation of the arm.

The rotator cuff muscles help center the humeral head in the socket of the shoulder in the range of arm movement. This rotation allows the arm to rise and is a graduate of the humeral head to remain in the socket and not left to the acromion process. Proper interaction between the deltoid and rotator cuff muscle centers the humeral head in the glenoid, or the shoulder joint. As the arm is raised from 0 to 150 ° of flexion, there is a dance of the muscles around the humeral head. The first degrees of flexion of the shoulder, the deltoid and supraspinatus pull the humeral head in the glenoid.

At the rising of the arm, pull the subscapularis, infraspinatus and teres minor humeral head into the outlet, and then move down. This is an optimal balance of the bone in the key-engaging schedule of movement of the humeral head.

Damage to the rotator cuff is one of the most common causes of shoulder pain. Since the rotator cuff muscles are so important, when something goes wrong it can really put one for some time to get back in place.

Overly repeating movement of arms can pressure your rotator cuff muscles and tendons that cause irritation and tearing. This occurs often in athletes, particularly baseball pitchers, swimmers and tennis players. It is also common among people in the building trades such as painters and carpenters. Use your arm to cushion a fall or falling on the arm can bruise or tear a rotator cuff tendons or muscles.

Imagine a lifting of the arms are levers in response to rotation and sliding of the bone in the shoulder complex. When part of the machine stuck, it will affect the entire movement. We sometimes feel the cramps and cannot even move our full arm because of the pain that causes rotator cuff damage.

The rotator cuff is important to be healthy. There is some information out there that will keep your shoulders in shape. Keeping in shape by doing shoulder rotations internally and externally (with the main lifts shoulder) is essential for you to throw all year.
